News for procrastinators: Only five more days 'til Christmas! If you're still looking for a perfect, one-of-a-kind gift, head to the artists open house at the North Midtown Arts Center (formerly One to One Studio, 121 Millsaps Ave.) tonight starting at 5 p.m. Browse the galleries, talk to the artists, and find the perfect piece for that blank wall. If you're still stumped for a gift, make sure to pick up a paper copy of the JFP, and browse our FLY pages for even more last minute ideas.
Saturday is your last opportunity this year to buy fresh, locally grown produce and other handcrafted goodies from the Greater Belhaven Market vendors at the Mississippi Farmers Market on High Street. Now is your chance to stock up for good holiday cooking and eating. Saturday also kicks off the long-anticipated "Jim Henson's Fantastic World" at the Mississippi Museum of Art. The exhibit is $5 for adults and free for kids under five. Where can you find the best of Jackson happenings? Start on the JFP Best Bets page. If you don't find something there, go directly to the best events calendar in town: the JFP Events Calendar.
If it's music you're looking for, look no further than the JFP Music Listings. On stage tonight, find local favorite Storage 24 at Touch Nightclub, Tiger Rogers Jazz Ensemble at Underground 119, Michael Miller at Pop's, along with dozens of other choices. Saturday, catch the Esperanza Holiday Showcase at the Pix/Capri. $10 gets you seven bands for an all-ages show. But don't stop there. You'll find everything from spoken word, DJs spinning, rock 'n' roll, blues, R&B and much, much more on the music listings page. Go discover a new favorite band or find where your old faves are playing.
Does the thought of cooking for holiday crowds give you the heebie-jeebies? Then click over to the JFP food blog and a listing of local restaurants that will do the hard work for you. Hurry, though; many locations have an ordering deadline of today. If you'd rather leave everything to someone else—including the dishes—head to the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide to see what's cooking this weekend and every day of the week.
Last, but not least, to find out where the newest movies are playing, including "Fantastic Mr. Fox" check out the JFP Movie Finder.
Is something missing? To make sure your event is listed on the JFP calendars, send the information to [e-mail missing] or [e-mail missing], or add your event yourself. It's easy!
