Viking Culinary Group, a division of Viking Range Corporation, is opening a cooking school in Ridgeland next month, kicking off with a class titled "Classic Steakhouse" on Friday, August 21. The group has named Chan Patterson as the school's manager, and the school has a full schedule of classes in the following days and weeks.
Patterson trained under culinary greats including Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and Giuliano Bugialli, according to a release from Viking. She served as cooking school director for the Everyday Gourmet in Jackson for 19 years, and is credited with scheduling Emeril Lagasse's first class in a cooking school at the Everyday Gourmet when he opened his first restaurant. An active member of International Association of Culinary Professionals for many years Patterson also served as culinary advisor to the "Great Chefs" syndicated TV show.
"The Viking Cooking School will offer unique cooking classes taught by expert instructors and popular local, regional, and national guest chefs," states the release. "With demonstration style and hands-on classes there will be something for cooks of all skill levels. Classes at the Viking Cooking School will range from exotic global cuisine, to basic cooking skills, to classes for kids and teens. The facilities will also offer a special events program and facility rental for private events of any kind."
The school will be located at the Township at Colony Park, 1107 Highland Colony Parkway, Suite 115, Ridgeland. For additional information, go to http://www.vikingcookingschool.com.
