Board of Ed Names Interim Replacement for Bounds

Mississippi Higher Education Commissioner Hank Bounds said the state's universities still cost less than their out-of-state peers, even after tuition hikes.

The Mississippi Board of Education has named an interim education superintendent to replace Hank Bounds, who is the preferred candidate for the post of higher education commissioner, a position overseeing the Magnolia State's university system.

If and when Bounds is officially offered the job, Judy Rhodes, a retired director of accountability with the State Department of Education, would take Bound's job as interim education superintendent, according to spokesman Pete Smith. The board is in the process of finding a permanent replacement.

New accountability standards, new labels for schools, and a new test. This is not the time for instability in MDE. Local school systems and schools are about to face real challenging times with all three of the above stated playing in concert together. Come on Dr. Bounds. Hang in there with us!
