Free Legal Clinic Today

[verbatim] Foreclosure prevention is one of several issues being addressed during the Mississippi Center for Justice FREE legal clinic on tap at the Jackson Medical Mall Thad Cochran Center on Thursday, March 19th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

"As Mississippians continue to feel the squeeze from our nation's economic crisis, it is important for people to know that help is available for many of the basic services they need," says Beth Orlansky, Mississippi Center for Justice Advocacy Director. "We want to provide resources and information, including legal counsel if needed, to help our citizens renegotiate with lenders and their homes, and to better access services that are available to them."

Mississippi Center for Justice has already fielded more than 500 phone calls in response to a foreclosure prevention campaign launched February 19th. Counseling for homeowners who are facing foreclosure will also be available.

The clinic, which will take place at the Center Stage of the Medical Mall, will assist metro-area residents with a variety of issues including payday lending debt, public school discipline rights, and access to healthcare for children. Residents will receive free legal counsel and information regarding debt management, enrolling qualified children in free health insurance, defending children enrolled in public schools at discipline hearings, and more.

No appointments are necessary for the clinic. Attendees will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents should bring copies of all letters from financial institutions, as well as property deeds, loan papers, proof of power of attorney, if applicable, and other documents relevant to their needs.
