President Barack Obama nominated former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus to serve as secretary of the Navy, reports The Associated Press.
Mabus, 60, was governor of the state from 1988 until 1992, and served as the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia under then-president Bill Clinton from 1994 to 1996. He was a surface warfare officer in the Navy from 1970 to 1972.
The U.S. Senate must confirm Obama's nomination.
