Ready for the Weekend?

Pepsi Pops Gala is May 6 at Old Trace Park.

Start the weekend right with music under the stars or under the roof Friday. Pack a picnic basket for the annual Pepsi Pops concert on the Rez in Ridgeland featuring the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and a fireworks finale. If indoors is more your style, head to the Jackson Convention Complex for Dathan Thigpen and the Holy Nation as they film a live performance for a new DVD.

Ready to just kick back with a cold brew and good food? Head to the Jackson Zoo instead for Zoo Brew 2009.

Saturday features your choice of four book signings: authors of "Jackson's North State Street," "Anybody Can Cook in a Crockpot," and best-seller "The Help" will all be at Lemuria, while the author of "Midnight" will be on hand at Borders.

At 4 p.m. head to BRAVO! for a wine tasting, then go cheer soccer with Mississippi Brilla at their season opener, or roller derby with the Capital City Rollergirls.

Find details for everything above--and nearly everything else happening in Jacktown--from art gallery openings to museum events and exhibits, and from community events, lectures, stage productions and much, much more on the JFP Events Calendar.

Of course, the weekend is always a good time for catching your favorite act at the clubs, and this one is no exception. Whether its a DJ mix for dancing the night away, or live jazz, rock, country or soul, you'll find all the acts listed in the JFP Music Listings.

If it's not listed with the JFP, it's just not happening in Jackson!
