Some 231,000 Americans are infected with HIV and don't know it. Hoping to make an impact on those numbers, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's Magic Johnson "Testing America" tour is stopping at Hinds Community College today from 8 a.m. until noon to offer free testing.
The HIV virus, which causes AIDS, is frequently undiagnosed until late in the illness. Mississippi has reported nearly 5,000 cases of HIV through 2007, according the the Centers for Disease Control, with an estimated 3,341 people currently living with the disease.
"It is crucial that people know their HIV status and learn how to avoid becoming infected with HIV; or if they are infected, know their status, and seek medical treatment, if needed," said Michael Weinstein, President of AIDS Healthcare Foundation in a release. "AIDS Healthcare Foundation is proud to spearhead this national AHF/Magic Johnson Testing America tour as a collaborative effort to raise awareness—and reduce stigma—around HIV testing."
The tour has been on the road for six months and will culminate in New York City June 27, designated National HIV Testing Day. The Jackson event is on the campus of Hinds Community College, 3925 Sunset Drive. Call 6010-366-1405 for information.

Is abstinence-only education part of his tour? Isn't that required in Mississippi? Also, there is no God.
