The weekend starts tonight with classic Mississippi blues at The Auditorium. Starting at 9:18, catch "Three Generations of the Blues" with David "Honeyboy" Edwards, King Edward and Eddie Cotton on stage for only $20. If you'd rather spend the evening catching up with old friends, head to Schimmel's for the Murrah High School Alumni Mixer for all those 21 and older. For more details and more happenings around town, head to the JFP Best Bets page to start your search for weekend entertainment.
Save Saturday night for Hal & Mal's 25th Birthday Bash, starting at 5 p.m. and heading into Sunday morning at 2 a.m. The party includes food and drink specials, and performers on four stages including Scott Albert Johnson, 7even:Thirty, Fedora Welty, Woodenfinger and many more for $5. The JFP Events Calendar is also stuffed full of family-friendly options, including the puppet show "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters" at the Mississippi Museum of Art at 10:30 a.m., used book sales at Fondren Presbyterian Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church, and the Mississippi Symphony's "Bravo IV: Romantic Preludes and Scandinavian Grandeur" at Thalia Mara at 7:30 p.m. And that's just barely scratching the surface of the dozens of happenings this weekend.
If live music is your thing, don't forget to check Jacktown's most complete, one-stop Web site for bands, deejays, spoken word and every tune genre you can imagine. That's the JFP Music Listings page, of course. You'll even find open mic nights and karaoke if your dreams include being behind the mic instead of on the receiving end.
Sunday, head to the Mississippi Trademart for the last day of the annual Gem, Mineral, Fossel and Jewelry Show. Before you go, make sure to find the perfect brunch, lunch or dinner spot on the JFP Restaurant Listings page and the Menu Guide.
