Update: Casey Therriault threw for four touchdowns Saturday to lead Jackson State's pounding of Alcorn State 51-7. He also became JSU's single-season leader in passes completed (372 yards), passing yards (3,808) and in total offense (3,911). Go, Tigers.
After throwing for a career high of 428 yards against Alabama A&M on Nov. 12, Casey Therriault, quarterback for Jackson State University, was named FCS National Player of the Week. Therriault completed 23 of 41 passes with four touchdowns in a 34-6 win.
Therriault made a bad decision when he was 18 years old, and has made the most of the opportunity to redeem himself he was given by Jackson State. No FBS team would give him a chance, but Rick Comegy decided to give Therriault one at a historically black university.
The quarterback, known as the "White Tiger" by JSU fans, has been a model citizen in his time in Jackson. His first year at JSU ended with Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the year honors and First-team All-SWAC at quarterback.
Therriault has been spectacular his senior season. He has thrown for 3,252 yards with 23 touchdowns and completing 58.6 percent of his passes.
In his final year at JSU, Therriault has led the Tigers to an 8-2 record and 6-2 SWAC record with one game left to play. Therriault has led his team a 20th ranking in the USA-Today Top 25 Poll and an 18th ranking in the coaches poll. JSU is the only SWAC team in the USA-Today poll.
Academic problems meant the Tigers could not play in the SWAC title game before the season kicked off. Instead of folding, JSU has put together a nice season with Therriualt leading the way.
This Saturday, Therriualt will put on a JSU uniform for the last time. At Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Tigers will face perhaps their biggest rival, the Alcorn State Braves.
The Braves enter the game with a 2-7 record, but in all rivalry games, you throw out the records. A win will give JSU its best season since 1999, when the Tigers went 9-2 as well.
Therriault will play for JSU one last time in the biggest game in Jackson, the Capital City Classic. Not only will Therriault's remarkable career at JSU end, but the final game of the 100th season of JSU football comes to an end, too.

Wow, I'm going to miss that young man. It seems like just yesterday when he got here, and all of sudden, JSU football got exciting. I hate I can't afford to go to the game tomorrow. But I'm sure I'll see him on NFL Sundays next year. Great example of repentance and redemption.
