Baseball and fast-pitch softball fans should be excited this weekend. The high school baseball and fast-pitch softball state championships will be on the line this week.
Wednesday, the baseball championships started with three games at Smith-Wills Stadium. To win the state championship, a team must win two out of three games. They continue until Saturday unless there is a need for a third and deciding game that will be played next Monday.
One local team in the baseball championships is the Madison Central Jaguars for the 6A title. Madison Central is down to Oak Grove 1-0 after losing 4-0 yesterday. Game two is tonight at 7 p.m. and is a must-win for the Jaguars.
Softball championships are being held at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland. They are set to start today, and Madison Central is in line for another championship at the 6A level.
The championships for fast-pitch softball run from Friday to Saturday. For the baseball championships, $10 will get you in to Smith-Wills to see every game, and it costs just $5 to see all the action in the softball championships.
