In just the team's second year in existence, the Jackson Showboats have nominated a player for the American Basketball Association All-Star Game, Jim Hill High School graduate Flawaan Flaggs.
After a standout high school career at Jim Hill, Flaggs went on to play for Hinds Community College, where he was a prolific scorer for the Eagles. He then moved on to Miles College in Fairfield, Ala., where he led the team in scoring while coming off the bench.
The 6'1" star guard currently leads the Showboats in scoring with an average of 33 points per game and five assists per contest.
Flaggs is shooting an amazing 48 percent from the three-point line as well. He is one of the main reasons the Showboats are battling for a playoff spot for the second year in a row.
Coaches nominate their best players for the All-Star Game, and then the coaches for the All-Star teams select players for East and West teams. The coaches are from ABA teams, so they have seen the players in action and know their talents, which helps in the selection process.
Players from the ABA have the chance to use the league to showcase their talent for the next level of professional basketball. These players move on from the ABA to the NBA Development League, overseas leagues or even the NBA.
Being named to the ABA All-Star Game would help Flaggs continue his dream of playing basketball at the next professional level.
The ABA All-Star Game will be April 19 in Kansas City, Mo.
