Civil-Rights Session for Mississippi Teachers Set for Oct. 8

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A workshop next month will show north Mississippi teachers how to develop lessons about local civil-rights history.

The Oct. 8 session at the University of Mississippi Law School is called "Moving Mississippi Up in Classrooms." It is sponsored by the university's William Winter Center for Racial Reconciliation.

A Thursday news release from the center says the workshop also will train people to analyze "systemic inequities" in Mississippi's education system.

A similar workshop was held Sept. 10 in Biloxi.

The sessions are part of a yearlong initiative called "Civil Rights Literacy and the Common Good," sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
