I don't vent very often here, but I have got to get this out of my system.
On Saturday morning, I got up at 4:30 AM to help my mom prepare for a garage sale that was to start at 6 AM. She decided to have it at my younger sister's house because she gets good traffic there when she has a garage sale, so we had to go to the other side of town, set up the tables and put out the signs. I grabbed the signs that I made the night before, which I stapeled to wodden stakes, and hammered the signs into the ground at the neighborhood entrances.

It's the Weekend, Baby
The old WJMI slogan "It's the weekeeeeeeend, baby!" fits in well with all there is to do in Jackson in the next few days. First, get away from your personal three-ring circus and see a real circus tonight. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus presents its "Illuscination Tour," and it is back in town at the Mississippi Coliseum. The show starts at 7 p.m., or you can go tomorrow at 2 p.m. or Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $14-$45 and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
Wake Up Jackson Meeting Sunday, July 8
I look forward to seeing you.
There will be an informal meeting on Sunday, July 8th, at the Metrocenter Food Court from 3:00 to 5:00. This will give members a chance to get to know each other, and interested parties can ask questions or make suggestions. I will also be handing out business cards that you can give to friends and neighbors.

Equal Voice for America's Families
An employee of the Mississippi Workers' center for Human Rights invited me the attend a convention in Birmingham this past Saturday called Equal Voice for America's Families, which was sponsored by the Marguerite Casey Foundation. The convention took place simultaneously in Birmingham, Los Angeles and Chicago with a satellite feed connecting all three locations. A total of about 15,000 families participated in the event overall.

A Special Reunion Weekend
This past summer, I met my older brother for the first time. He was the product of a previous relationship my dad had, and although I knew he existed, I did not know his name or anything.
BTW Birthdays
Yeah, you guessed it, my birthday's in December. It's on the 21st to be exact, which sometimes falls on the first day of winter—the shortest day of the year.

5 p.m., America Reads-Mississippi Member Recruitment, at Jackson State University (1400 John R. Lynch St.), at the Sally M. Barksdale Educational Resource Center. ARM members tutor full-time during the school day, before and after school, over breaks and in the summer. Members support school and community efforts to increase parental and community support and involvement, recruit volunteers and attend monthly training to gain skills necessary to meet service obligations. Members who successfully complete 1,700 hours in one year will receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award worth $5,350, which can be used to attend college and/or pay off current qualified student loans.
