After losing over 500 points yesterday in the wake of the American presidential election win by Senator Barack Obama, the Dow is down another 440 points in mid-day trading. CNN Money says the sell-off is accelerating on concerns that falling oil prices and problems in the U.S. auto industry will be harbingers for a longer recession.

Shantih: A Life and Death in Seven Movements
"Shantih: A Life and Death in Seven Movements"
For the last two years, Millsaps student Lloyd Bourne has been arranging and composing music for his album "Shantih." The result is a cohesive string of heights and depths, pain and joy, crescendos and lulls. The album is best when you listen to all the pieces in succession, and Bourne, performing under the name Huunter with a group of instrumental musicians, will offer that chance at a live concert at Millsaps' Ford Academic Complex. Admission is $5 at the door, and the proceeds go to Wider Net Missions, an organization that works with inner-city kids, homeowners, Habitat for Humanity and more. E-mail [e-mail missing].
Hot Time in the City
It's July, folks, which means that summer is already well on its way. So grab your friends, a breeze-inducing fan (or two), some tasty food and ice-cold libations to reclaim your backyard for a mod, urban grill-out. Because, who are we kidding? There's no way to escape the heat so why not just embrace it? In the summer, in the city...
The Road to Wellness Will Not Be Traveled By Car
As my car coasted into the JFP parking lot two weeks ago, I thought I had ran out of gas. It actually turns out that I need a new car engine, which means I'm out of a car for the time being. The good news? This means I have exceeded my goal of biking to work three times a week. However, it makes getting to the gym more of a challenge. It also makes everything else more of a challenge--from getting to the grocery store to finding ways not to arrive places pouring with sweat.
Wellness Project: Week 1
I've come to the conclusion that instead of the five goals I listed, I should have just had one goal: improve my short-term memory. Why? Because I keep forgetting my goals! My brain is on auto-pilot most days, thinking about obligations for work, school or church, so two or three days will go by before I realize that I haven't done something. I think that I may have to post a checklist on my mirror to remind me of what I am supposed to be doing. I'm distracted on a regular basis, so I hope I don't overlook the checklist! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can help myself remember to stick to my goals?

Don'T Look Now, It's The Stanley Cup
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final is on Saturday night. In case you haven't been watching (and millions of Americans haven't), the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the first two games of the best-of-7 series. Those game were on OLN. Now the series shifts to Canada and to NBC (Ch. 3 in Jackson). Pundits are predicting Game 3 could make history as the lowest-rated prime-time program in U.S. television history. How bad is it for the NHL? ABC's coverage of World Cup soccer is expected to get better ratings.
Eli, Giants Stampede Cowboys
Former Rebel legend Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes as the New York Giants whipped the Dallas Cowboys 36-22 on Monday night. But the quarterback who made the biggest impact was the Cowboys' Drew Bledsoe, who was so lousy that he was benched at halftime.
