MySpace Sex Fiends

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, along with seven other state attorney generals, signed a letter Monday demanding that MySpace provide a list of sex offenders who use the online social networking site and explain the steps the company will take to alert both law enforcement officials and potential victims. In October 2006, Wired magazine published an article revealing that it had identified 744 sex offenders who use MySpace. However, the search could not identify sex offenders who either had not registered for sex crimes or used false information in their MySpace accounts.

During Monday's regular board meeting, Hinds County supervisors discussed a potential change in medical service for inmates, which the county currently handles on its own. The meeting was open to the public, but crucial details had already been discussed privately—with no notice provided to the media.

"Jackson has been a really nurturing place for me as an artist so I wanted to share that with other artists and spread that around." The event featured visual art from Tony Davenport, Jessica Russell and Ellen Langford.

Pitchfork Media, an online-only music publication based in Chicago, is working to reinvigorate the lost art form of the music video. On April 7, the publication launched Pitchfork.tv, a Web site devoted to disseminating music culture in video format.

[Herman's Picks] Vol. 7, No. 23

The Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music brings back the 17th-century dueling harpsichords with John Paul and Shawn Leopard Thursday, Feb. 19, in the St. James Episcopal sanctuary at 3921 Oak Ridge in Fondren. These are two of the most accomplished piano/harpsichord/keyboard players in the state, so it's always a treat to hear them perform on rarely heard harpsichords.

Lifelong Learning

My friend Brooks and I have a bit of a running joke involving our alma mater, Millsaps College. I love Millsaps dearly and am grateful every day for the education it gave me. That education included making me and my friend--and no doubt countless other alumni—into lifelong learners. We tend to laugh about it: Will we ever figure out what we want to be when we grow up?
