I was walking this morning in Fondren when it came to me I could spotlight a homeless dog a day for 365 days just like Julie did on her blog with recipes from the Joy of Cooking. The sad part is that there are 365 dogs that need homes in the Hinds County area and I probably wouldn't be diligent enough to blog every day.

An excerpt: "While Barbour denies race-baiting, Winter says that Barbour's mention of the ticket is 'a nuanced racist message,' and Hodding Carter, president of the Knight Foundation and former editor of The Delta Democrat Times, says that Barbour's reference to liberals and tickets 'is simply code for n*gger-lover, integrationist, supporter of all the changes they've hated since 1964.' To Robert Haws, chairman of the history department at the University of Mississippi, the election has become a referendum on progress. 'If the subtle way Haley Barbour's using race is rejected by a Musgrove victory, then we may be into a genuine new era of Mississippi politics. White House Blocking Hurricane Aid

AP is reporting:

With Gulf Coast governors pressing for action, Senate Finance Committee members complained Wednesday that the Bush administration is blocking a bipartisan $9 billion health care package for hundreds of thousands of evacuees from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. "We've got people with needs today," Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said. She was joined by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, who testified via a teleconference hookup, in urging quick action on the legislation.

New Orleans Police Spokesman Commits Suicide

As the White House develops a political strategy to blame the terrible conditions on Louisiana, the spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department, Sgt. Paul Accardo, 38, who has been quoted all week in media reports about the disaster, has committed suicide.

Look out: Here come the kids. New Stage Theatre is presenting "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." March 30 through April 3. Fiddler, directed by Kate Roselle, consists of a 34-member cast raging in age from 7 to 17. "About half of the cast is experienced actors. We have quite a few who haven't acted before.
