[Geek] Comic Crisis!
Comic fans are used to company-wide crossovers interrupting the usual plotlines in favor of an ill-contrived tie-in. The main characters take a break from the action of the special event to check their answering-machine messages, or the big battle is viewed in the distance from a window. These crossovers typically occur once a year or every other year for the big two comic producers, DC and Marvel. However, DC has taken a radical approach to their upcoming summer event, "Infinite Crisis."
DIY – Decorated Shirt
Every now and then when you're being budget conscious, you'll feel the urge to splurge. Those "I've gotta have it!" moments seem to come from nowhere. But fiscal responsibility doesn't an end to the latest fashion trends for you. All that's required is a little ingenuity, patience, and a needle and thread.
Valentine's Origns
It is almost impossible to write a definitive history of Valentine's Day because most of it is lost. What we do know is a strange mix of religious facts and historical legends.
Lenten Alternatives
The time of year between Ash Wednesday and Easter is traditionally known as Lent. Christians use it as a time to reflect and prepare for the resurrection of Jesus. Non-religious folk use these 40 days to feel a little more holy and make up for the New Year's resolutions they've already forgotten.

Edible Gifts
While I prefer to make "food" gifts, I don't always have time. I have finally accepted the fact that it's perfectly OK to let other people do the work for me. Here are a few suggestions for edible gifts that only require the time it takes to drive to the appropriate store.
Get Your Holiday Jollies
Bellies are full, but the day is not over. Once everyone has helped with his or her assigned clean-up task, what is there to do but fall into a stupor in front of the television or stir up the old family argument? Fortunately, it is easy to keep a houseful occupied after a holiday gathering with a little planning.
Father's Day
The proud papa is a guy who has snapshots of his kids in his wallet where his money used to be. Humorous to some, true for others. This year, give your father a gift thoughtfully chosen for him, based on his personality or hobbies. Head on over to This week's JFP Issuu and check out the deals!
Victoria Scantlebury
"It's interesting when people just look at me and think I'm black," says Victoria Scantlebury. "And then when I open my mouth, they're like, 'Oh, wow.'"
Shandra Wilson
Between her son, her full-time job and life coaching, Shandra Wilson, 35, says her biggest challenge is "having time to do everything."
eZra Brown
With a soft voice laced with traces of his native South Carolina, eZra Brown speaks earnestly about the positives he's found in Mississippi since coming here in 1992. "I'm excited about the way Mississippi is actually growing. Young fire is a good thing. … There's gold everywhere."
Gwen Robins
Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., Gwen Robins made her move to Jackson in August 2000 at age 63. "You know I was born and raised there, and I never was away from home this long," Robins says. She wanted to be closer to her daughter, who lived in Jackson, but the idea of moving so far away from home into a strange southern city was daunting.
David Rop
Coach David Rop, 28, may seem soft-spoken and gentle, but his fierce dedication to cross-country is anything but mild. A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Rop moved to Jackson in 1995 after accepting an athletic scholarship to Jackson State University. At JSU, Rop collected copious cross-country and track trophies and set new records as he completed his bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics. After graduating from JSU in 2001, Rop became assistant cross-country coach at JSU and taught mathematics.
[Natchezinian] Regina Charboneau
Yes, they eat biscuits and listen to blues in San Francisco. Thanks to Regina Charboneau, that is. The Biscuits and Blues nightclub, started in 1995, is one of the several establishments this acclaimed chef has opened or helped put on the map. The Natchez native has certainly made her hometown proud.
Willie Mae Shirley
At first sight, one wouldn't suspect that the freshly painted home of Willie Mae Shirley has been standing since 1926. The home, located on Shirley Avenue in the Washington Addition subdivision, is filled with memories from friends and family in the form of pictures, furniture and gifts. An inviting walkway lined with brightly colored marigolds leads to the home's front porch.
Bill Minor
Bill Minor is proof that the best way to keep a muscle fit is to exercise it. Rigorously. When I arrived at his Broadmoor home the Friday after Thanksgiving, the brain of this 80-year-old journalist and columnist immediately started churning, and for the next two hours, he exploded with facts, details and opinions and quirkobilia. I didn't need to ask a single question of the man who has made a career out of asking questions in the state of Mississippi.
Robert Day
After shuffling the deck of Bicycle playing cards multiple times, magician Robert Day was prepared to choose my card. Judging by the complexity of this "illusion," I was sure he would fail.
