While DART is being sent around town, Precinct 2 (primarily Ward 5 in West Jackson) lost eight officers and bodies drop around us like rain from the sky. Precinct 2 has the highest calls for service in the city yet this is where they choose to remove officers from the streets. One can't help but believe this area of the city is always targeted when reducing resources because many administrations simply don't care as much about the quality of life of these people (including me) as they do about other areas of the city. This will be loudly decried as not true and lots of paper can be shuffled to explain it away. However, if it quacks like a duck....
No need to send DART over for a few days in precinct 2 when the officers that were sent to Precinct 4 (who didn't need them) can be sent back to Precinct 2 where they are desperately needed.
I believe Mr. Williams came here from California to work for the late Mayor. He would not have any firsthand knowledge of how transitions are effected in the Mayor's office. This is actually standard protocol as it should be. Appointed employees understand they are temporary employees and as such when administrations change they are usually replaced with personnel of the new Mayor's choosing as with the President's Cabinet. Whining and calling the press was pretty tacky in my personal opinion.
I'm encouraged by the conversations taking place yet mindful this is the same school administration which failed to apply for continuing funding for the Safe Schools Healthy Students program that had a PROVEN track record for making visible differences in the lives of children. On another note, the children in the school district do not have textbooks to take home . There is no earthly reason why this should be our reality yet it is. Each of these business entities could make an immediate difference in the lives of children by helping this district to buy textbooks. Ipads and such are not recommended by me at this time because many of our children live in unsafe environments where these items are sure to be stolen but who steals a textbook. We are looking for new solutions for the future but ignoring the very basic things our children need; things which can be provided in the present.
They should be required to repay any funding the Democratic Party gave for their campaign. In fact they shouldn't be allowed to serve any further until they can run as a Republican and win.
