Not sure what you mean, Donna, but I'm pretty sure Mr. Jackson knows exactly what I mean.

Dear Bill,

I am saddened to learn that you may be a racist-in-denial, as well as the many, many others not privy to the arcane semantics that Ms. Ladd and the rest of the JFP staff so carefully enumerate within their issue. As the definitive, authoritative text on this issue, I encourage you to carefully consider their words within.

Nor can you continue to listen to Dewayne Hickham, Anderson Cooper, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and expect to see the other's side as well. You're as unwilling to consider our viewpoint as you claim we are of yours. Well, there you are. Stand-off. C'est la vie.

You are Trayvon? Puh-leez. What about the two children murdered and left in a ditch last weekend? What about the carjacker that got killed (not inappropriately, I must say) the other day? Your indigence over this unfortunate incidence, and not the everyday goings-on in your own community, suggests that you're just as bad as Jackson/Sharpton et al.

All this outcry over a single, unfortunate incident. Where's your black anger over the dozens of black-on-black crime seemingly every day in this nation? What, exactly, about your lives or losses deserves my empathy? When you value one life more than another, you deserve no empathy.
To retort in kind, get over yourself.

"This is the most insensitive and racist statement I have read on this case."

No...this is.

On Rallies, Marches Follow Zimmerman Verdict

justjess,

Your assertion that Mr. Zimmerman told many lies is opinion not substantiated by court documents, as he did not testify. What he said, pre-trial, was, likely, vetted by both the defending and prosecuting counsel, not to mention the law enforcement agencies involved. As to your opinion that the wrong verdict was handed down...I have heard no one, including the prosecuting attorneys after the fact, say that the clear-cut case for manslaughter or second-degree murder was made but the jury returned the incorrect verdict. Based on the laws on the books in the State of Florida, enough reasonable doubt was present to find Mr. Zimmerman not guilty, at least according to the pronounced verdict.
Likely as not, you and the other readers here, including me, are not privy to the procedural details of the case and are, therefore, unqualified to cast aspersions on the technicalities in a murder trial. However, spewing invectives and suggesting that racial profiling was evident (when even the FBI found no evidence) is uncalled for without evidence.

As for the parkway, the citizens of Byram and Clinton that I have spoken to are enthusiastic about its prospects. While it isn't a long drive, regardless, it is on twisty, two-lane roads and has the more-than-occasional traffic accident. But, they do it in droves, because they avoid driving on Highway 80/Terry Road/Highway 18 unless they have to.

As to the objections that knowledge06 raises: I-220 and Lakeland Drive (back in the day) and the Highland Colony Parkway all were developed in relatively unpopulated areas. And the population and business grew in and around them post-development.

The "City of Jackson" is involved in the planning of this inasmuch as its inhabitants elected the Board of Supervisors and implemented this proposal. The "City of Jackson" has exactly zero say over the functions and goings-on of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors. Should the collective voice of the "City of Jackson" outvote the representation of the other cities of Jackson that would, in all likelihood, approve of this parkway?

As for SusanM's request for information, I would suggest she reread trusip's post: Stokes essentially feels cut out of this, as does Graham, and they are both seeking ways to make this work to their personal, fiscal advantage. Now that they have two lackeys on the board as well, I'm afraid Mrs. Calhoun is about to be outvoted 4-1 for the next few months.

Todd, you quote salon.com? Really? All of her characters are grotesquely flawed. Without near hyperbole to magnify the strengths and weaknesses of her arguments, the vast majority of readers wouldn't be able to grasp her points, me included. Ronni's last paragraph looks like something John Galt said during his monologue, by the way!

Who says I don't do my share to make the world a better place or that I'm unwilling to help others? My attitude? Hmm... I don't grok that. You may infer my views on certain points but not my attitude on anything, I'm afraid.

Back to the reparations meme that Ronni and Donna are touting, how much more level does the playing field have to get to make y'all satisfied? Are not the educational opportunities accessible to all? If we keep giving extra legs up for various groups, how long until we say, "Enough! It's time for you to do it on your own." Sorry. I was raised and educated post-1965. If anything, this continued coddling has deepened the educational divide. I'm sure all of your achievements are more thoroughly enjoyed as a result of your own hard work and not because they were handed to you.
