Hello. I do not live in Jackson, but in Chicago IL. Nevertheless, I would like to see that Jackson MS have more places and entertainment areas such as supermarkets, movie theaters, and museums with national and international exhibits in many areas, i.e. science and history. Also, I like to see that the Jackson Zoo be improved with more species and naturalistic habitats for the animals.
You should visit my home city Chicago, IL someday.
With you on the need for more smaller but important projects that will actually happen in our lifetimes. And we don't get something going in those empty storefronts (at least the windows) downtown, I'm going to blow a gasket. They send the exact wrong message to visitors and locals alike.
All, we want to see your seven best ideas for Jackson! Just fill out the idea mid map on page 14 of this GOOD Ideas issue (on the streets now), then post it in the comments below here (or email it to me at [email protected], and I'll post it for you). We'll pick the most innovative three maps to publish in a future issue of either the JFP or BOOM Jackson. And we'll give those three folks $25 gift cards to a local restaurant.
Let's have fun and help the city at the same time!
ConcernedCitizen, that's a tad revisionist. Mr. Lee never expressed a concern about such a compromise to us. He did not seem to understand how important an issue this is to Jackson, which was a major concern we had about him: the whole "right or happy" meme seemed terribly naive for a city with Jackson's dynamics and history.
Lee seemed to make it clear that he would do the vote regardless and without any guarantee of those seats, and he didn't instill confidence that he would stand up to the chamber if need be.. We don't believe Lumumba will roll over on it, and he'd better not.
We'll all be watching and reporting about it if he does.
Big difference between a citizens advisory board and a commission established by the Legislature. I really do hope the Chamber is committed to doing the right thing on this and allowing Jackson to make our own appointments. The mayor must hold firm on it.
Um, that is true, Bubba. They market for gun manufacturers, though. It's the cover that's fun to come back at you on after your cursory Bubba-Google to, supposedly, prove me wrong. And I also assumed that anyone interested in this absurd tangent about semantics might have also read the links Todd posted above about the origin of the phrase "assault weapon."
If all you've got in a gun debate is a bunch of whining about what dangerous weapons must and must not be called, then you might be an example of the unarmed combatant who picks a battle of wits he has no chance of winning.
Work hard, Bubba, in this sandbox.
There really is more to discuss if you were serious about it. Instead, you inspire research to prove that you really have no clue about the use or origin of words like "assault weapons." Did you really just contribute to a healthy dialogue about either the Constitution or public safety?
"Liberal quacks"? So much for being taken seriously?! Just because someone disagrees with you about guns or anything else doesn't mean they are a "quack." It just means they disagree.
But you raise an important issue about the responsibility of gun manufacturers that we should discuss more. I'm on a deadline now, though. Will return. Others feel free in the meantime--even the, er, "quacks" among you. ;-)
