btw, wapt still has that headline on the story: [here it is.][1]

We asked the news director to provide us video or audio evidence of him actually saying that Columbus needs to be "removed from the history books" (which their story does not provide). We'll let you know if we get it.

Meantime, the hysteria continues. We need to be better than this, WAPT. Seriously.

Tyler [talked to Councilman Lumumba about Columbus-gate][1]. It seems, WAPT mucked up their headline.

Even [Howard Zinn doesn't want Columbus removed from the history books][2]; just put in an accurate context—and one that isn't so eurocentric and apologetic for Native American genocide.

Thanks, knowledge. Yes, we've reported on the Jackson Plan repeatedly.

ladycap, with due respect, I don't think you're who you say you are. Please email me directly before I open any further posts: [email protected]

1234, just saw your post way above. Sorry, the conspiracy theory doesn't stick. Tom's piece was his column that week, and our web editor (who is the most unpolitical cat you'll ever made, and lives in Rankin County) always sends out the non-staff column on a certain day. Beyond that, we would never apologize for tweeting any content in our paper whenever we want because, you know, it's our paper.

And that rumor runs counters to all of his recent actions and statements. I wouldn't lie awake at sleep worrying about that.

Just came from the city about that Old Canton sinkhole:

> Traffic Alert
>
> The City of Jackson Department of
> Public Works announces that it has
> closed Old Canton Road at Crane Blvd
> to through traffic. An emergency
> repair to a major sewer line at that
> intersection will begin today. Work
> should continue for approximately two
> weeks.
>
> Motorists are urged to observe all
> traffic control devices. Detour signs
> are posted.

BTW, about that sinkhole on Old Canton, someone posted this on the Fondren list Monday:

> I posted the sinkhole on 311. Within
> hours, this was the response: public
> works director dan gaillet responds:
> This project is much bigger than meets

In Mississippi, only one party to a conversation has to give permission for a recording.

On Hickingbottom Behind Anti-Lumumba PAC

No, lady, that's not what it indicates. I've read enough MSC files to know how closely the police tracked "instigators" of any kind. They all had to communicate with the police about their rallies and such. Again, criticize Lumumba for all sorts of other things, but this one is a stinker.

donnaladd says...

And let's be intellectually honest: The two flyers aren't morally equivalent. The anti-Lee Republican is certainly a campaign ploy -- but it would only be as bad as the "race traitor" one if it was a complete fabrication with no basis whatsoever in reality. The truth is, Lee has massive Republican support. That's just fact. (And I'm finding it remarkable that so many Republicans say it's an insult to accuse him of that, but I digress.)

The cruder "race traitor" flyer blurs a MSC memo and says it proves that Lumumba worked with the white establishment against his own race with no semblence of reality to back it up. It's fine to criticize them both, but they are not the same thing. The "race traitor" one is much, much worse. The Republican one uses the very same trick that GOP campaigns have used in Mississippi for years: "guilt" by association. It's up to people to decide whether they either like or dislike that association. Some do, some don't. Fair.
