I agree with you, notmuch. I read that for the first time a bit ago, and couldn't find the daily editor to fix it. Was in middle of production so didn't fix it myself and let it go until you just reminded me. My bad.

We will be having an editors' meeting about missing this kind of error this week. There is no excuse for it. Thanks for pointing it out. We're fixing it now.

It's our first poem! All, we're launching a poetry blog. If you want to post your work, register and post it as a blog post. When we get enough, we will gather them all into a special Poetry Blog. Pass it on!

Certainly, this caller did not speak for all of JSU, and we shouldn't take them as making JSU look bad. I don't even think she gave me her name, which I'm sure someone who worked for the university would.

Your comments, though, about how we treat young people, as well as structural causes, are very well taken. We need to believe in them, support them, mentor them, hold them to high standards -- and not assume that fashion fads indicate anything negative about them. The most confusing thing about the woman's anger to me is that she seemed to fully miss that the JFP has treated JSU as our local university from day one -- not our local black university -- and we are totally in support of it and have shown that editorially through the years. The point of the cartoon, and the editorial next to it, was precisely that we should not look at a kid wearing saggy pants and assume the worst about him or be shamed of him. Kids on all campuses wear saggy pants and clothes other folks don't dig -- but it doesn't make them "thugs" or anything else. It's the stereotypes we're fighting here -- everyone's.

The lionization part reminds me of some folks' blind devotion of Frank Melton. Just because he said exactly what they wanted to hear, they believed him and thought him such a genius even as his rhetoric and "plan" didn't make a lick of sense.

What's crazy with Ryan's extremism is how many people who are cheerleaded it would actually be hurt by it. We really don't need to make it THAT easy for the uber-uber-wealthy to fool us, do we?

I don't know any of those answers, Knowledge. But we'll see what we can find out from Mr. Lee and get back to you.

The following post showed up in moderation on the site yesterday. Before opening, I asked Jonathan Lee to respond and verify whether the accusation is true or not. This is his verbatim response:

Donna, I appreciate you reaching out. This particular rumor has been shopped around various media outlets all week. The vehicle I assume that they are referring to is my company vehicle. My personal vehicle is registered in Hinds county, a fact easily verified.

MPI is owned by an entity chartered and located in Rankin County. It was where our distribution company was originally located. In fact, MPI has only been located in Jackson for 19 years. For those 19 years MPI has paid property taxes, inventory taxes, and school taxes in Jackson, Mississippi. The parent company is still located in Rankin county today and my company car is owned, titled and registered to the parent company.

Rest assured that I am a tax paying citizen of Jackson, also a fact easily verified. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to address the issue.

I'm astounded that, among other things, a man who would ban the pill and in vitro fertilization is a major-party candidate for vice president. Just stunning. Romney definitely went shopping on the fringe for this one: the dude who protests the abortion clinic every day will be thrilled, though. He and his wife also would see the pill banned.
