Please investigate how many patients are transferred to hospital each year in the metro area from free-standing surgery centers. I guarantee that it is far higher than the number transferred from Jackson Women's Health Organization. In fact, investigate how many people DIE each year having surgery at all the metro area ambulatory surgical centers. That would prove very interesting, I suspect.
I'm thrilled her nomination was withdrawn, as she was NOT qualified to serve, despite Bryant's attestations that she had done more than any other person in the state to improve women's health in Mississippi. However, the Board of Health is not a powerful board, as it meets only 4 times a year in a functionary fashion, only.
Is she allowed to hold public office AND be a registered lobbyist?

The article in the NEJM studied 4 states. The state most closely resembling Mississippi in terms of the uninsured (poor, rural) is Maine, and Maine showed no decrease in mortality with the expansion of Medicaid. The study was driven by the results from New York, and the authors state that it is dangerous to generalize to other states. "Most important, our analysis is a nonrandomized design and cannot definitively show causality."
The most important thing an expectant mother can do to insure the mental and physical health of her child is to marry a good man before she gets pregnant. Unmarried motherhood is a one-way ticket to a lousy wife for your child. It is the #1 predictor of health, education, and employment.
No one HAS to work at Walmart. Apparently many folks want to, because if they didn't, WalMart would have to sweeten the pie to hire folks at higher wages/benefits. This is how capitalism works. Health insurance should not be tied to employment, anyway. My homeowners insurance, auto insurance, etc. are not. Employer-supported health insurance should stop immediately, and folks should buy their health insurance on the open market with insurance companies able to write policies country-wide. Watch competition lower prices.
