12 years is a long time for an innocent person to be behind bars. My hat goes off to the members of the Innocence Project for the stellar job they did in Cedric's defense.
It is time for Jackson to get the check signed and delivered. It is impossible to pay anyone for this large chunk of time taken from their life; however, it will give Cedric a start in trying to improve his quality of life.

It seems that a giant piece of the financial puzzle is left out of this gathering of individuals trying to make sense of the Drug War. That piece is the inclusion of the Mississippi State Department of Mental Health - Alcohol and Drug Division.
Millions of federal dollars support programs geared towards addressing the State's problem with drug abuse to include treatment centers, prevention and also the funding of Drug Courts throughout the state. Where are the representatives from this entity? Were they asked to participate?
Before the Legislature is brought into the equation, the State Department of Mental Health - Alcohol and Drug Division would be first on the agenda for information governing the fiscal management of funds being given to the State for management/treatment/prevention of this HUGH problem.
So Mr. Flip Benham wants to present to "God a state that is abortion free"? Does this man know that abortions were being done in Jackson even before there was an "official" clinic. I don't want to see women at risk again with back alley procedures.
These extreme right-wing Tea Party folks are really on a tear. Ted Cruz can thank himself for causing the Gov. shutdown which cost tax payers 24 Billion Dollars. Yes, that figure really sounds "Conservative" and "Fiscally Responsible".
I can't believe that restaurants and hotels are exempt from this tax. Why must Jackson residents be the main shoulder for this tax. Hotels all over the country charge extra tax and there seems to be no problem.
I agree with knowledge06 that an education campaign needs to begin for the "average resident and voter".
How much money is expected to be raised with the increase in water/sewer bills and the tax increase? It seems as if we are headed for some serious problems based on the average income of Jackson families.
Republicans now know that their attempt to unseat President Obama didn't work. They also know that The Affordable Health Care Act has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Their new tactic is to harm any group that supported the President i.e., the poor, women, LGBT, unions, teachers, public schools and the young.
Some of the even more extreme Republicans and getting set to shut down the government again in January, 2014. It just doesn't matter. They are willing to tank this country because of their hate for President Obama and the many groups that supported him.
These are evil thoughts & behavior. How could any human being sink so low? These folks are morally and ethically bankrupt.
You blogged that two (2) City Councilmen went to prison. I remember former Councilman Louis Armstrong, but, who was the second person on the Council that was convicted and sent to prison?
"Y'all damn sure seem to hold every white person alive today accountable for the actions of a few 150 years ago."
I think you lost your argument when you used "FEW" as numerical exactness for the number of people subscribing to the idea of separation of the races and your time frame of 150 years ago is way off base.
Senator Horhn is being disingenuous in reporting that his only regret was the length of time it took to get the bill signed for the up/down vote by citizens.
The reason this issue took so long is because the Gov. and Chamber want to dictate how the money will be spent and their attempt to stack the board with people of their choosing.
To date there is not a written agreement and Mayor Lumumba is relying on what he thinks will happen.
