I can't believe that so much time, energy and money is being spent on this "non-problem. For a State whose numbers are at the top of every negative and the bottom of every positive, it is mind boggling! If this level of attention were given to education, jobs, and illness, our State could be on its way up from the bottom.

Phyl Bryant cancelled the Mississippi Web Site for Affordable Health Care. This program was ranked with the program in Kentucky and destined to be a real success. This stupid ID scam should be stopped - not Affordable Health Care. At the bottom of all of this is RACISM at its best!

Maybe someone can bring readers up to date on the millage issue in an earlier article. The Mayor said that JPS did not need all of the money requested because they had renegotiated their ?????.

Did the School Board and Superintendent not anticipate a possible strike when there have been complaints for years, especially with the fact that drivers are on buses along with many children and often with disciplinary problems. Certainly, if a teacher needs an assistant in the classroom; a bus driver needs someone to assist.

There are many people who would work as volunteers - if asked. We could set up a Village of Grandparents to ride buses. It really "takes a village" to raise our children. This is an urgent problem with wide-spread implications: The Board needs to work quickly to solve this problem and expecting these drivers to wait until July, 2014 just ain't in the cards and is not a solution.

It is interesting that this strike is supported by the community which should be a big sign for remedy.

Congratulations to Donald Brown for his outstanding achievement of becoming a Rhodes Scholar and the first for Mississippi State University since 1911.

I am especially proud of his family of origin and the teachers, preachers and community involvement that produced such a fine young man. My heart is warmed and my position proud for Donald, who like me, was born and raised in the "Hill City", Vicksburg. This City also produced many other fine men and women and among them is - Harvey Johnson, Jr. former Mayor of the City of Jackson.

Donald, go gently into the world and continue to make positive foot prints!

I am reminded of this quote made famous by Mrs. Thelma Watson (deceased) Eng./Lit instructor at Rosa A. Temple High School:

"If a man can build a better house or build a better mousetrap than his neighbor; though he builds his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten pathway into his den."

@ Dr. Tom Head

I don't know how I missed this article. It is absolutely brilliant! I'm amazed that bloggers here did not respond to anything said.

You are so right: You do not hear the real message of Jesus preached today. The teachings have been so manipulated as to fit whatever rocks the soul of most messenger.

A friend introduced me to a Reality Show called "Preachers os LA". It is on a station called oxygen . If anyone doubts you assessment of todays "Christain" practice, these folks will put it into better prespective. It's all about money, fame, fortune and the concept that God intends for all people to have wealth. First of all, you must plant your financial seed with the church: Then, there will be a financial harvest.

The only "harvest" I've seen so far is gathered and owned by the ministers. LOL - Yet Serious - Sad but True.

I don't mean to split hairs with msnative; however, according to the recorded intent of Sec. of State, Hosemann, Watkins would be charged with securities fraud for transferring more than a half million dollars of pulic money from an account set up for renovations at Metro Center.

but, the simple part of this is: Did Watkins move public money from the Metro
Center Mall fund to finance a Meridian project? It is not an evaluation based on success or failure; it is the fact of what can be done within the constraints of the law.

robin hood law does not apply!

This is simply more of the same: Republican owned businesses making money off of the poor and the under-represented. Just the cost of one scanning machine would be enough to house, clothe, and feed 300 children for many years to come. This is nothing but waste at its best.

Why were Lumumba and the Council apprised of this situations at the last minute?
This is reminiscence of the Scott Sisters' case. Haley Barbour, then gov. of the State of MS, demanded that the Scott Sisters never set foot on MS soil and that one sister would sign away her kidney to the sister who was in kidney failure. These women are paroled in the State of Florida; however, they were born and raised until there little scrape with the law where no one was killed, beaten, or harmed in any way by the two of them.

To add insult to injury, the Mayor had the gall to sit on stage with former gov.Haley Barbour a few weeks ago to discuss the building of a Civil Rights Museum. The denial of the rights of the Scott Sisters should be the only conversation between these two men relative to "Civil Rights".

I'm so tired of this policy of reactionary responses rather than proactive policies that will have a greater potential for more positive and equitable results.

@Sarahmina
"I think we've done an excellent job in trying to "include all people in the development of this city.,.You might want to read the history to see who has made "RACE" a "FACTOR" for the past 600 years. Wasn't US."

What in the hell are you talking about. MS's slave history does not date back 600 years. I have tried very hard to ignore your commentary here because it is always laced with so much anger, hate, arrogance and what seems to be a misunderstanding of how one governs to encourage and promote a successful life for all citizens. It is my sincere hope that you are not on the payroll for the City of Jackson because you are sounding more and more like a train wreck just trying to find somewhere to flip off of the track.

You lost me in an earlier post where you said to the world that the reason that Harvey Johnson was accepted by whites was because he would not stand up. Your comment proved one thing: You did not and do not know Harvey Johnson, Jr. It is so painful to listen to a black female trash a black male who has all of the attribute and accolades of what the world considers successful, caring, family oriented, intelligent well educated and respected by others. If this is the black man that you trash - what are the character trait of one that you hold in esteem?

As I have said to you before, stop digging holes for others. Also, please know that all white people are not your enemy; All people in your race are not your friend.
