An Open Letter to Jackson: The Old, Next, and Now Generations
I'm torn. I wrote in my column this week that it is indeed a great time to be alive. These days will be recorded for posterity, and stories will be told to generations not yet here about the year 2008. The year that an African-American and a woman both ran for the presidency of the United States. The year that Jackson saw what $750 million looks like at work. The year that we had a spirited debate on NOT whether we would build a civil rights museum, but WHERE to build the museum. The year that my generation rose up and said NO MORE! We want in! I felt change had finally come to Mississippi.
SurveyUSA Says: Clinton 50, Obama 44
According to the final SurveyUSA poll before the primary election today, Sen. Hillary Clinton will take Pennsylvania by 6 points over Sen. Barak Obama, 50-44. Obama has made a remarkable swing upward in the final days of the poll, suggesting that Clinton may not see the double-digit advantage that pundits have suggested she'll need for her campaign to gain the much bally-hooed momentum through this primary. (What that "momentum" might mean given Obama's insurmountable lead in pledged delegates is open to even more question.)
Open Letter to Wayne Dowdy: Please Run Somebody in District 3
Dear Mr. Dowdy:
In 2004 and 2006, independent white separatist candidate Jim Giles earned double-digit support from District 3 voters--simply because he was the top-billed challenger on the ballot, and therefore inherited many of the votes that would have otherwise automatically gone to the Democratic challenger.
Digging up the Roots
When discussing the very difficult issue of violence, we find there are two types of people: those who don't care why criminals resort to violence, and those who get that preventing it can only come from attacking it at the roots.
Is Bill O'Reilly In "Man-Love" With Ludacris…AGAIN!?
from sohh.com..Bill O'Reilly obsesses over Ludacris after Luda pokes fun at him at the Grammys
Bill O'Reilly stabs at Luda, claims "rap destroyed music." In case some of you missed it, Ludacris shouted out Bill O'Reilly and Oprah Winfrey when picking up two of his Grammys this past weekend. Good old Bill apparently didn't appreciate the love and took it as an opportunity to take more shots at the Ludameister. After reporting on Luda winning a Grammy for Best Rap Album, O'Reilly immediately questioned his win, pointing out lyrics from "Slap," a stand-out track on Release Therapy in which the ATL rapper mentions "slapping a nigga" and killing his boss. Ehhhhh, it was hypothetical, Bill. "Do you think there's a liberal, secular, progressive culture in the music industry that makes it easy for these people to prosper?" Bill asked Nathan Davis, a Philadelphia journalist. "These people?" "People don't understand a guy like Ludacris saying the N word 50 times in a song and saying he wants to kill his boss in the song," he continued. "They don't understand why that merits a Grammy award. Why does it?" Constipated-ass Williams also pleaded that the N word will be used as long as albums that feature it prominently get awarded.
Orley Hood Riffs on Mayor of ‘Over There'
One of our Rankin County readers just alerted us to this lovely piece of pontification in the Rankin Ledger, courtesy of one of the "journalists" who cooed over candidate Melton back when. Per Orley:

‘Now Entering Ardenland’
With the number of award-winning acts that Ardenland has funneled through the city, it's easy to forget that the company has only existed for about three years. But Arden Barnett's skill as a music businessman didn't spring up overnight.
[Publisher's Note] Frank Melton's PR Problem
Last week's "Chamber Confidential" e-newsletter from the MetroJackson Chamber of Commerce popped into my inbox, and the headline of Chamber President Duane O'Neill's note caught my eye: "Doing Business Under a 'State of Emergency.'" In as polite a way as he could, O'Neill made a very basic point:
Letterman Nails McCain on Friend G. Gordon Liddy
A must-watch: David Letterman put it to John McCain tonight not just on Sarah Palin, but on why McCain's friendship with terrorist G. Gordon Liddy is different from the Bill Ayers scare his campaign has whipped up. (And note McCain's cheap shot at ACORN again. Pathetic.) Watch:
