Iran: Difficult Differences at Nuke Talks
Seven-nation talks on a deal meant to start a rollback of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief were delayed Thursday as senior envoys from both sides wrestled with a draft they hoped would be acceptable to both Tehran and its six world powers negotiating with it.
The Immorality of Incarceration
Mariachi guitarist Johnny Mora's bout with drugs was years in his past, but the legacy of jail time it led to is as much a companion as his guitar when he travels to perform in clubs around Mississippi.
Bach: Russia to Set Up Protest Zones in Sochi
IOC President Thomas Bach said Russia will set up public protest zones in Sochi during the Winter Olympics, a move unlikely to defuse criticism of the country's human rights record and a recent law banning gay "propaganda."
‘Bastard Pop' Goes Mainstream, by Annalee Newitz
By waging a war of litigation on file sharers and copyright infringers, the Recording Industry Association of America has unwittingly created a new kind of protest art. Mash-ups—digitally knitted-together compositions made up of two or more popular songs—are anti-authoritarian folk music for a generation whose "establishment" is represented by corporate intellectual-property owners.
Latinismo: Heatin Up Local Dance Floors
Until recently, the only way for Jacksonians to experience live Latin dance music would be to book a flight to New York, Miami or another distant city. However, a new group has emerged in Jackson that brings the vibrant music of the Caribbean to local clubs. Latinismo has been energizing Jackson dancers and Latin music fans with its lively shows for nearly two years. It is a large band, bringing together three percussionists, a full horn section, piano, bass and guitar, along with strong vocals (sung in Spanish). Latinismo takes on a wide range of music, from fast-moving salsa numbers to expansive Latin jazz compositions that showcase the skills of each band member.
[Lott] The Whole Package
March 20, 2005 With gasoline once again at $2 and higher per gallon, and some fill-ups pushing $50, we know we need a national energy policy. The question is: What provisions will comprise this policy? Some people see it has as an either/or proposition—either more energy exploration or more emphasis on efficiency and new fuels. In fact, we must have the whole package—an energy policy promoting more domestic production of traditional fuels, better efficiency and new alternative energy.
Public Eye Opens
April 26, 2006 We are the watchers, our eyes fixed on the halls of power. Democracy means majority rule, but we live in a republic of laws. Whether I vote for a Republican or a Democrat, (and if we had more democracy, we could choose between more than two), I expect all to follow the rules. That means no bribes, even if they're legalized as campaign contributions. We cannot stop it, but we have every right to watch it, to witness what money does in the public's name. It means that meetings are open to the public unless there is very good reason to keep them private. It means that we have the right to know what our leaders make for serving us, what titles they claim. We have the right to know where they went to school, why they're qualified for the job. This is our community. Crime statistics, city contracts, gun permits; all belong to us, and anyone who makes public records a secret steals from our democracy.
Impressions of Old Masters
The Mississippi Museum of Art's new exhibition, "Old Masters to Monet: Three Centuries of French Painting from the Wadsworth Atheneum," covers all the major players and artistic movements between the Renaissance and Post-Impressionism in an almost overwhelming collection on loan from the first public-art institution in the United States.

House Group Finalizing Immigration Bill
A group of Republicans and Democrats in the House is finalizing a sweeping immigration bill that offers work permits and the eventual prospect of citizenship to millions of people living illegally in the United States, aides say.

A bipartisan immigration bill soon to be introduced in the Senate could exclude hundreds of thousands of immigrants here illegally from ever becoming U.S. citizens, according to a Senate aide with knowledge of the proposals.
Mississippi Primaries Whittle List of Governor Candidates

AG’s Office Releases Reeves Road Report with Reviews by Two Former Supreme Court Justices

[Music] From Nedelle's Mouth
On the phone, she sounds faint, almost muted. I have to turn up my volume just to hear her. But this must only be a bad connection because on her latest album, "From the Lion's Mouth," Nedelle is anything but faint and muted.
[Music] From Greece to Ocean Springs
Dimitri, the bus driver, turned sharp curves dutifully without his pink tie or black gelled hair slipping out of place, and we safely traversed the abyss where ancient Spartans dropped babies who seemed too weak to be future soldiers.

OPINION: Women in Mississippi—So Strong and So Tough
"Over the 25 years that we have lived in Mississippi, we have taken quite a ribbing. Whenever we told them of our children's successes, they always scoffed and said 'but it's Mississippi' as if that lessened the accomplishment."
