Bennie Thompson

Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi's only Democrat in the U.S. Congress, believes state and local government should be spending the federal money it has available. The state's senior Congressman doesn't understand why Jackson's government isn't taking advantage of the money, programs and opportunities at its disposal.

Like relatively every American, I watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition every Sunday on ABC. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment and like having a good bawl fest once a week, okay?

George Steinbrenner (1930-2010)

Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died on July 13. He drove some of the major changes in sports over the last four decades. He meddled with his team's chemistry, bringing in high-priced players and calling out stars in the press. His Yankees teams won 7 titles between 1973 and 2010, which is remarkable by almost any standard except the one Steinbrenner demanded. Sports franchise owners like Mark Cuban (NBA), Dan Snyder (NFL), and Jerry Jones (NFL) are in the same mold. The following are my favorite seven Steinbrenner factoids.

"Caveman" on ABC

I may sound like a weirdo, but I LOVE THE SHOW! Maybe it's a guilty pleasure or maybe it's due to my tendency to rout for the underdog, but I watched episodes on TV and online. I liked the commercials, and I'm addicted to cavemanscrib.com. Even if you hate the TV show, check out the Web site. It's interactive, and you get to do things like flush the toilet while one of them is in the shower or look at video clips from a wild party they had the night before. If you go to the "Prep and Party" day on the PDA, they have an iPod playing songs by independent artists. One of the songs, which you may recognize fron the airport commercial, is "Remind Me" by Royksopp, one of my new favorites.
