BTW, I [just checked the property rolls][1]. It indicates that the taxes on the Mississippi Products Inc. land is currently paid.

And, Tom, I agree. This is no time to play the victim, whether you're the candidate or his supporters. He made a mistake by not getting in front of this and explaining it before other people found out. And I have no idea what to think about the whole discrepancy over whether or not he has ever actually owned the business. Completely befuddled by this turn of events. And very surprised.

WJTV has [a story up about Mississippi Products' property taxes][1]. We haven't seen anything on this, and the story doesn't provide a lot of info. It mentions an email with "disturbing information," but we don't have that one.

Make no mistake: Charging a media outlet or a member of the public a dollar of page to make our own copies is a barrier to transparency, and we are not pleased. Expect to hear more from us on this.

IF it was the guy they arrested, of course.

donnaladd says...

Yes, it does. There are crazy people in all parties. That's part of the reason that I dislike political parties: They help make people stupid.

As for this guy, the only thing I saw on party was a Facebook pic that went around last night that supposedly had him in front of a Christian and Democratic bumper sticker -- but somebody said that he had done it as a joke, and you could tell that from his friend's post.

But, frankly, I could care less. It's the last question I would ask first in such a situation, but I hate partisanship. Obviously, he was targeting candidates of both parties.

The Batshit Crazy Party? ;-)

We couldn't agree more with your ninth point, jassen. We're all about dreaming and planning (or we wouldn't be doing with we do). But the "analyze" and "re-plan" steps are so vital. I believe Jackson is starting to grow up a bit on this front. A big idea is just not enough, and if it can't stand up to tough questions, or the people behind it, it won't work. And it's a waste of time, resources and energy.

Robbie, you might actually read the blog post before lashing out. The JFP is not saying that Lee *is* a DINO; Tyler is reporting that other candidates say that he is, and his response to the accusation. For the love of accuracy, don't be so dang sensitive.

swalker, I agree that corrupt cops (and public officials) need to be sent home or to jail, but you don't just start there. It's not enough, without full community engagement. Frankly, we've had a situation for many years in Jackson where many citizens are happy to go along with corruption on higher levels than just a police officer if it benefitted them in some way (such as got a police record cleaned).

Police simply aren't the answer to lowering crime, although they play a role just like everyone else. If we don't simultaneously tackle the root causes of crime, it's like removing broken chairs from the Titanic.
