Pretty clever for a "Baker's Dozen." I really like your #1 which includes the need for "diversity training". This is the area of absence for the entire State of Mississippi.
@robbier "It's politics, Both sides do this, so don't throw stones in glass....."
President Obama has received the worse treatment of any American President. Do you need some of the many links to evidence this? It is not just simply about being Democrat or Republican - It's about being Black. Please don't try to dispute this. I've lived it tooooo long to be wrong!
Why doesn't the new senator, Rodger Wicker, simply admit that he along with most Republicans have been trying to destroy President Obama since he became the Democratic nominee to represent the party nearly 6 years ago? Many Republicans have voiced their intent to unseat him. Since President Obama won his first race, succeeded in winning a second term, now we are faced with anything negative that these jokers can come up with.
"Repeal ObamaCare". "Impeach Obama". "Don't raise the debt limit". "Shut donwn the government" and the list goes on and on.......
The sad thing is that Wicker nor any other Republican has presented anything to address the many problems of poverty stated in this article. The food stamp cuts are unbelievable! There will be a domino effect. Poor children and their families will not be the only ones hurt; it goes to producers of food - to the stores that sell products.
Do these men ever get tired of reading negatives about the State of Mississippi? Aren't you tired of being at the BOTTOM of everything GOOD and the TOP of everythin BAD?
Residents of Jackson need a strong "Shop Jackson Campaign". I don't think that our citizens are fully aware of the loss of tax revenue on a daily basis and the impact the loss has on operational funds.
If more people would shop in Jackson, there would be adequate funds to manage this city.
If this one "NEED" is done, my other six will be a piece of cake!
"I don't recall anyone being asked to qualify for ID's to vote."
Oh, Really?
It's apparent that you know little, if anything about MS voter qualifications. MS was the poster state evidencing the need for the Voter Rights Act. It hasn't been that long that Black folks could not vote period and when they were permitted to vote, it was with the skill of interpretation of the constitution, being able to look at a jar of jelly beans and giving the correct count, knowing how many bubbles there are in a bar of soap and signing your name on waxed paper. These are just a few of the "qualifications".
It's not about "voter fraud". This is why Hoseman responded, "I have no idea, ma'am" when asked about the number of identified cases presented for prosecution in Mississippi.
So, it's not about "voter fraud"; it's about voter suppression.
@js1976 "I'm all for it. My definition of "qualified"would be those without prior convictions or history of mental illness."
A report on MSNBC this morning gave a history of signs and symptoms consistent with schizophrenia (hallucinatory and delusional experiences). Too bad that family, friend and the mental health professionals could not get this man treated before he acted on the voices.
What kind of gun was the gentleman in Washington shooting with on yesterday? Was it an "assult weapon" a "simi-automatic" an "automatic".
Was there any kind of "background ckeck" that could have kept the gentleman from buying his weapon that he used, along with others he took to take the lives of 13 people and other wounded?
@sarahmina "I am so happy to see Jacksonians push back against the naysayers. We have GOT to work together to make this city work for everyone who wants to live here. Obviously there're people who always highlight the known problems But NEVER offer a better solution. In that case, keep your opinions to yourself. There is NO way "ANYONE" can bring in more business, increase the middle class & help improve the school system overnight. Mayor Lumumba will make the decisions that ill lay the foundation that will lay the foundation for the city to succeed. Together we can accomplish this."
It is interesting that any comment made by the POOR is labeled "naysayers". This is so unfair! Why have Town Meetings if you are going to be angry about the comments that people make. For the most part, the people who are complaining are looking at their own budgets and to raise any utility, tax or any cost by 108% is WRONG. Many people are trying to adjust their budgets to buy medication to stay alive. They are not "naysayers" they are simply giving you facts and counting their own dollars.
The term this Administration is using "stop kicking the can down the road" is at best - political jargon. If people are going to be able to continue to live in Jackson, we will have to continue certain "payment plans". Citizens can not "cash pay" all of this city's debt. Think about it this way - You bought a car for $20,000 now you are being asked - three month later - to pay $41,000 which will increase your payments by 100 +%.
By the way, who are the Jacksonians that are pushing back against the "naysayers"/financially strapped?
Jackson will not survive a dictator or council people who will rubber stamp all of the extreme plans made so far by the city's leader. It is time to get serious and to STOP the name calling of people who love this city and do not want to see it headed down the road of destruction!
"(Note: Jones' campaign manager, who declined to give her name, asked the Jackson Free Press to stop recording and leave the room so the two could confer)."
I don't know if Mr. Jones is the right man for Supervisor Hinds County District II; however, what I do know is that his "Campaign Manager" made a terrible error in not presenting a positive face to media on his campaign. I was impressed with the interview until I read the "Note" about the Campaign Manager not giving her name. WHY??? This sounds MEAN!!!!
Another point is the fact that this was a freebie: Another way to get your name and platform out there without having to spend a dime. Many candidates have lost races because of bad things that others do. Seems like the first order of business for this candidate is to put his CM in check.
