"Using terminology such as this is what causes doubt in his ability to lead the City of Jackson into a better place. The term "militant" is most commonly used as a combative and aggressive term, and this is the type of mayor many residents feared."

I agree that this type of language does not speak to "unification" as this Mayor promised; however, it seems as if he is being given a pass.

My concern over this event sponsored by the NAACP was the title and agenda that was not in keeping with the 50yr. commemoration of Dr. King's March on Washington and his historic speech, "I Have a Dream". I know that Mayor Lumumba said in a campaign speech, "I am not a Barac Obama Democrat". He never explained exactly what he meant. Now that he has said , "We must be militant in the pursuit of that equality" the "King" concept of a "non-violent movement " is replaced with the idea of military combat.

This is the wrong message for our citizens. It further divides a city with residents who are trying to heal the atrocities of our not-so-distant past.

To the organizers of the Day of Dignity Social Justice Awareness Rally, this community is reminded everyday of the hand-cuffs on the wrist of our youth and I agree that learning would be difficult; however, there are so many youth who have done and are doing positive things in this community. Where were the messages of their accomplishments? I honor and give praise to the NAACP, but, 50 years from now, it is my hope that these two events will be scheduled in a fashion that will not take away from the commeration of the March on Washington. I, as many of you, will not be alive; but for today, this is my dream!

"Bryant has said he has no argument with guns being banned in government buildings."

Does this mean that Gov. Bryant thinks that open carry would not be safe for people in gov. buildings? What is the rationale here? Where exactly does he think that John Q Public wearing guns would make sense and constitute a good idea?

Just asking.

"Brown: Aligning With The Right" ????

When I first read the title of this article, I was anxious to know how "BO" Brown could possible "align" himself with the "right". when I hear the term "Right" in the context of political articles, I think in terms of the "right" as the conservative wing (Republican) and "left" - the liberal/progressive arm of the Democratic Party.

There wasn't anything in this article that supports the political assignment of party ideology. Bo Brown was an excellent member of the City Council and was able to settle the Council after becoming president. He was able to short-circuit some of the foolishness that was common place before his election to that post.

Bo Brown is a man of character and also a man with a good heart. I have known him to be fair in his dealings with others and also a hard and dedicated worker.

There are many people in this race. I think that the last count was 19. It is my hope that Brown will make it through to victory!

"We know how frightened our sons would be, walking home alone on a rainy night night and realizing they were being followed. We know how torn they would be between a child's fear and a child's immature idea of manly behavior. We know how thow they would struggle to decide the right course of action, flight or fight."

OMG!!!!!!

Please, MS Senators and Representatives, get back to work on expanding Medicaid, improving our schools without taking money from the public to give to the private (Charter Schools), accepting the fact that the Affordable Care Act has been approved by the Federal Courts and you must address that fact, and lastly, get busy working on the acceptance of clinics in this State that provide total helath care for women.

This state has enough killers. We don't need to become a dumping ground for any more waste.
