Scrappy, using that same logic, Renaissance Faires and Barry Manilow concerts are also "functionally racist." You might need to look up the meaning of the word. (And you probably won't find it on that website that you're cutting-and-pasting from.)
And isn't it the Right that gets hot and bothered about class warfare? What sort of class warfare is rolled up in the phrase "the less productive of our society," when you consider how many full-time and multi-job hourly workers exist at or only slightly above the poverty line, where one injury or illness would bankrupt them under the existing system?

Understood, Richard, and I agree with the spirit of your comments if not every letter of them. (For instance, one man's "excess regulation" is sometimes another man's still-attached arm or leg.)
Obviously the Nissan plant is considerably more successful than some other government investment, so it deserves the praise due.
It might be even more exciting if the profits from this endeavor stayed in the country, but I guess in this day-and-age we take what we can get. :)
Richard: After talking to R.L., I made a quick tweak above; the number you're asking for it there, but the wording may have obscured it. For the 4,500 jobs Nissan will have created by the end of this expansion, the final "price per job" will be the $83,995 number.
Maybe the marginal cost of the 1,000 jobs that are being added here isn't so bad, but you have to decide for yourself if that's the whole story or not. Frankly, this might not be a bad thing if those jobs remain stable over another 10 years or so. (And if they morph into good paying Union jobs... hey, then that'll be **very** interesting.)
For context, it's not exactly GOP bashing to point out what the Nissan jobs have cost when you consider it was a Democratic governor (Ronnie Musgrove) who signed on initially.
2.) We *might* be the "Jackson" in that Johnny & June Cash song.
**What are the local sayings unique to your community?**
"Farish Street should be done this year."

Umm... CS's? Freelon's?
**Who are the personalities known by everyone in town?**
Sore subject? I think the C-L just let half of them go via buyouts.
I think at this point we're pretty much left with Nic Lott and Burt Case, assuming one isn't actually the superhero disguise of the other.

William Winter, because he's awesome.
**Who are your local villains?**
Did a national newspaper company seriously just ask who are "local villains" are?
We only have a double-AA "villain" team here, so nobody special. One time we had Lex Luthor's younger son Chip Luthor for a few weeks once he got off the DL.
Oh, and I guess everyone pretty much agrees on Tate Reeves.
**What events only happen in your community? (charity events, yearly runs/walks not associated with national programs)**
I guess there's a lot these:
- Mal's St. Paddy's Day Parade (gawd I hope I got that right from memory) - JFP ChickBall (yay!) - Best of Jackson (yay!) - Mississippi Blues Marathon - Throw Back Your Litter Ledger Day
At which point they'll be treated in emergency rooms with the most expensive care we can offer, instead of preventive programs or earlier intervention. The ER hospital will then pass those costs on to those of us who do have private insurance in the form or ridiculously inflated costs; the insurance company will turn around and put that into our premiums.
In other words, Bryant wants to raise your insurance premiums! :-P

Again, not the largest tax increase in history. (Or, as Rush said, "in the world." LOL.)

FYI, here's a good answer to the newly minted GOP talking point that Obamacare is the "biggest tax increase in history."
