In yesterday's top JFP Daily story, "City Approves Convention Hotel Financing," and in this week's issue, JFP reporter Adam Lynch misquoted Ward 1 City Councilman Jeff Weill saying that the city is being asked to co-sign onto billions of dollars of debt. A Rare USM-Ole Miss Game

Here's another big soccer event in the metro area. The Ole Miss and Southern Miss women's teams will play a game on Saturday night at 7:30 at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland. Tickets are $5 for adults, but if your kid shows up in a soccer uniform, they get in free. If you show up in your replica Pele uniform, Doctor S suspects it will still cost you $5 to get in.

Qweem-O-Wheat: "For quite some time, with my faithful truck, a big old hot pot and plenty of Qweem-O-Wheat, I've fed thousands of senior citizens hot qweemy bowls of dee-wishious Qweem-O-Wheat through my 'meals-on-wheels' service. While delivering a hot, qweemy treat to Grandma Pookie, she whispered: 'Boy, nothing in life is free—even when you get old like me.' Her statement made me realize that our senior citizens have become vulnerable, slow-moving targets for folk who want to beat down elderly people and take their hard-earned money.

Two-Way Capitol St., Water Line Repairs Closer

A massive state bonds bill, providing $2 million for converting Jackson's Capitol Street and up to $6 million for upgrading city water lines, cleared a major legislative hurdle yesterday and appears poised for passage. The water system improvements, which the bill would fund through interest-free loans, were a major item on Jackson's legislative wish list following a rash of water main breaks in January.

JFP Freelancer of the Month: Bryan Flynn

A layoff became an opportunity for Bryan Flynn to do what he loves. Two years ago, Flynn, 33, lost his job as a grocery manager for Walmart. With his wife's encouragement, Flynn started playtowinthegame.com, a website for his musings and analysis of professional and college sports. Since August, Flynn has been a regular freelance contributor to the Jackson Free Press.

It's the Fourth of July Weekend

Today is an uplifting start to the Fourth of July weekend if you plan on visiting Celebrate American Balloon Glow at Northpark Mall, an event filled with music, food, and hot-air balloons. Admission is free. If you're looking to enjoy some music, tonight comes loaded with talent and tunes. Blue Party and e.company and are playing at the Ole Tavern's New Orleans music night. South by Southwest - Day Four

The delirium is setting in. Even after fortifying with fried avocado tacos, coffee, and vitamin water, I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back. Yesterday was a frenetic combination of marathon walking, free beer, multiple bands and multiple venues.
