@ donnaladd "The mayor is correct to stand firm, and anyone who would give up the Jackson farm to people without our best interests at heart should not be elected to hold public office in our city."
Thanks ladd: You are always able to put things in perspective and sort the facts from the fiction.
Congratulation to Desiree and her mother, Mrs. Robin Roby. It proves that you don't need fancy schools for children to be successful; It takes someone to care, share, esteem and teach. It seems that all of these things are in place for this STAR student.
I wish you enough of everything to continue your journey.
The "Jackson Plan," according to a "Malcolm X Grassroots Movement" was the "brain child of the Jackson People's Assembly". Chokwe Lumumba is the co-founder of that organization and takes credit for his successful election to the Jackson City Council representing Ward 2.
If elected Mayor of the City of Jackson, will he be able to represent the entire City with all of its citizens? What are his duties and responsibilities to the MXGM?
This Organization seems to be sublimated by Mr. Lumumba now that he is a candidate for Mayor: the question is, "Why and what are you hiding?"
I'm shaking in my slippers just thinking of the possibility that this City could land in the hands of one with the appearance of questionable ethic/criminal violations just trying to manage small legal guidelines with very small sums of money. Can you imagine what will happen with the City's millions?
Very interesting! The lesson to be learned here is that there aren't any "sacred cows". If you do not follow the laws for reporting and disbursment of your finances, you will be exposed. The most disturbing is for the 8 who did not bother to file by the January 31, 2013 deadline. What also gets my attention is the Quinn/May (Spouse) statement: It was set up (Jackson United - a non-profit) - with her name on it in July 18, 2012. Quinn's husband, John Richard May Jr., also an attorney, incorporated "Jackson United" to elect Regina Quinn Mayor, for the purposes of "Political Advocacy and Public Education".
Quinn's spouse further stated that "It was set up as a non-profit so if WE decided to drop out or the electtion turned out unfavorably, WE could give any excess money to chariy." Is this a game?
This election is approximately 5 weeks out; At what point will THEY decide that THEIR election is "turning out unfavorably" or the decision is made to "drop out". Do these two possibilites have anything to do with past personal and business financial decisions?
The fact that Mayor Harvey Johnson is a good steward of "The People's Money" (Tax Payers)continues to be evidenced by how he manages his campaign finances. Also, he is one of only one other candidate who has followed the time line for reporting contributions and disbursements.
Inspite of all considered, it isn't any guessing game about why people continue to believe in Mayor Johnson's leadership; His diligence and integrity remain in tack.
Do you think that Mr. and Mrs. Reed's time and energy would be better served if they worked on issues such as the expansion of Medicaid, protection for Head-Start Programs, protection of Family Planning Programs and Family of Orgin Issues involving incest? Aren't these areas of concern: areas where-in many of these same folks who claim to be pro-life are willing to kill the child through abandonment and neglect by taking away programs that would benefit the mothers and children.
Mississippi's WOMEN are not confused! We just simply want politicians and so called "activist" to stay out of our bed rooms, our vaginas - (remember the vaginal probe mandate), our MD and other health-care professionals offices.
Mississippians have said, "NO". Don't play this game of female ignorance.
We still don't get it: The only way to keep businesses in Jackson is fo the residents of this City to STOP following those who leave. I said in an earlier blog that the only business that could survive in Madison or Rankin County is a Tanning Tub Business. Our citizens are the patrons who account for the big buck spending in these areas. We should shop jackson. If it isn't in Jackson, we probably don't need it anyway. When we take our dollars to other towns, we are taking away the funds needed for streets, teachers, school repairs/upgrades, fire department, police Department and other City services. In spite of the businesses that left, there are many that have come and for sure, many that have stayed.
stop dogging jackson: There are many great things happening here. We are among the few Capital cities in the entire country that are not on the verge of bankrupcy or like Detroit - being taken over by a City Manager.
Jackson has not pink-slipped a single fire-fighter, policeman/woman or any of our city workers. In spite of the shape of the financial picture that this Administration inherited from the Melton Administration, we have been able to have excellent stewardship over the people's money through the leadership of Mayor Johnson.
It seems as if there are citizens who have not stayed connected with what is going on in the City of Jackson. My challenge to you is to visit the City's website:
Access information on services offered. You can also subscribe to the Mayor's Facebook or Twitter feeds by clicking on the icons. We must stop the rhetoric and look at the Mayor's RECORD.
Thanks Ladd for giving this obviously talented and seasoned Professor of Political Science, Byron D'Andra Orey, a "Place to Stand and a Place to Rest his Lever."
I am always amazed by the CL's need to control and re-write Black History. An interesting question is: " What did the VIP's Author expect from this Black male who is old enough to have experienced many of the negatives that continue to encourage the need for - not only a Black History Month, but, a Black History Year?"
