M.K. Turk
Since there will be no March madness this year, it is a good time to look back on the great coaches and players of the past. One of those great coaches, M.K. Turk, happened to be at the University of Southern Mississippi for the 1986-1987 season, his 11th season as head coach of the Golden Eagles.

Rickea Jackson
Freshman forward Rickea Jackson was the Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year for 2018 and 2019. She was the Michigan Player of the Year in 2019, 2019 Michigan Miss Basketball, All-Michigan First Team and 2019 USA Today All-USA Second Team.
Isaac Carter: New Head Coach at Millsaps
Millsaps College named head football coach Aaron Pelch full-time athletic director in January 2020, leaving the school in need of a full-time head football coach. After searching, Millsaps hired Isaac Carter for the role. Carter previously held the position of defensive coordinator and full-time professor of kinesiology at Mt. San Antonio College, a community college in Walnut, Calif.
Nikelle Galatas
After dropping the opening game of the 2020 baseball season to Southern Illinois University, Jackson State University gave the ball to its best pitcher. Preseason SWAC Pitcher of the Year Nikelle Galatas took the mound for the Tigers in the second game of the season.
Azaria Howard
Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball junior center Azaria Howard, one of this season's impressive players, earned Co-Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week after her games against Jackson State University and Grambling State University.
Aliyah Matharu
A two-game performance earned Aliyah Matharu recognition from the Southeastern Conference as SEC Freshman of the Week. She is the second MSU freshman this season to earn the honor, joining forward Rickea Jackson.

Mike Leach
New Mississippi State University head coach Mike Leach will certainly be a fun one to watch during press conferences. Leach has been known to discuss topics such as vikings versus pirates, his hope that there is a bigfoot, and his thoughts on if we are alone in the universe.

After 11 years away from coaching, Mike Jones returned to the sideline on Monday, March 18, after Mississippi College renamed him as its head basketball coach.

Senior defensive tackle Benito Jones will represent the University of Mississippi in the 2020 Reese's Senior Bowl. He is the fifth Rebel in the last four years to be invited to play in the game.

Hours after Florida Atlantic University won the Conference USA Football Championship, the worst-kept secret in college football became official when the University of Mississippi named FAU head coach Lane Kiffin as its head coach.
Fred McNair
This season, the Braves stormed through the SWAC once again. McNair led his squad to a 8-3 overall record and 6-1 record in SWAC play and an amazing sixth straight East title. This Saturday, Dec. 7, the Braves face Southern in the championship game for the second year in a row.
John Rhys Plumlee
The future looks bright for the Hattiesburg, Miss., native as John Rhys Plumlee took over the starting quarterback job in week five of the season. His legs have been a major weapon for the Rebels as he leads the team in rushing with 989 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Juwan Taylor
Alcorn State junior defensive back Juwan Taylor made one of the biggest defensive plays in a game against Alabama A&M late in the third quarter.
Marvin Terry
A defensive touchdown capped a spectacular game for Delta State University linebacker Marvin Terry. His eight yard touchdown return helped DSU win its third straight game and keep any Division II playoff hopes alive.
Kylin Hill
The first Saturday in November saw the season hanging in the balance for Mississippi State University. MSU entered its game against the University of Arkansas on a four-game losing streak and as the team clung to life for any bowl hopes.
Patrick Willis
Unlike some players, Patrick Willis hasn’t returned to the NFL, and now after over five years it seems unlikely he would even attempt a comeback. The 49ers linebacker still had a few years left on his contract when he decided to call it a career.

Redshirt junior wide receiver Quez Watkins stepped on the field for the University of Southern Mississippi for the first time in the 2019 season against Troy University after missing the first two games of the season against Alcorn State University and Mississippi State University.

Expectations grew in the 2019 Grove Bowl as University of Mississippi fans saw their first glimpse of new offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez and quarterback Matt Corral.
Reid Evans
Millsaps College linebacker Reid Evans could be the player who steps in and replaces some of the production Chandler Coleman provided last season. Evans enters his final year in position to be one of the leaders on defense.

Senior defensive lineman Eric Sadler earned Preseason All-GSC honors, as voted on by the league's head coaches; however, GSC also projects that Delta State will finish sixth in the conference, signifying that the rest of the coaches do not believe this is a rebound year.

Alcorn State University has owned the SWAC East division over the last five seasons. The Braves won their division with ease and its third championship game over the same time period. Alcorn State has played in the SWAC championship game every year since 2014.

Leading Alcorn State into the season is SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Noah Johnson. The quarterback is also the SWAC Preseason First-Team All-SWAC choice of the head coaches and sports information directors.
Rockey Felker
While growing up in Jackson, Tenn., Rockey Felker often spent his Saturdays listening to Mississippi State University football. It started a love for MSU that Felker carries to this day as he continues to work for the university.
